IT, women and football

Every year for the last eight years Fujitsu Siemens Computers in Austria has sponsored the IT Charity Football Tournament, an annual tournament where companies across the IT sector compete for victory at an indoor sports arena in Korneuburg on the outskirts of Vienna. The tournament is designed to support and raise money for the charity sector. Tournament awards also encourage public recognition of leading community projects.

The overall project winner from the most recent tournament in 2006 was the “Caritas-Microsoft Fujitsu Siemens Computers – ABC for Women” project. The project targets women in need who are supported by Caritas - the Catholic Church's welfare organization - through family centers, employment projects and similar activities. These IT training programs aim to help socially deprived women to overcome their fear of using a PC, improve their self-confidence and their chances of finding employment. This project is another example of how Fujitsu Siemens Computers is looking to use it influence and expertise to address broader societal and economic issues.
