RFA (BS2000/OSD)

Enables BS2000 users to access data resources residing on other BS2000/OSD computers

Current version: V16.0
Announced version: V17.0

Remote File Access (RFA) enables BS2000 users to access data resources residing on other BS2000/OSD computers from their current task. This remote data can be accessed by means of the access methods of the BS2000/OSD data management system DMS, BS2000/OSD commands and utility routines.

Each user task can connect to up to 16 partners, while each BS2000/OSD computer can link with up to 24 partners, provided that the computers form a subset of a BCAM network. RFA thus enables users to process data stored on another computer without the need to transfer the data first by swapping physical media.

When using RFA to access files, the communication partners can be connected locally or remotely, and the requested files stored on private or public volumes. All DMS access methods are supported (except for EAM) in addition to the majority of DMS commands and many of the utility routines. RFA also supports file transfer from one computer to another.

There is generally no need to modify the user program in order to access files via RFA. Only the job control language (JCL) needs to be converted in order for jobs generated for local data processing to be able to access data stored on other BS2000/OSD servers.
