| | FireWall eXtension |
Protection against unauthorized attacks |
Firewalls, or IP packet filters, are an indispensable weapon in the battle to protect computers against attacks launched from the Internet. The firewall administrator’s mission is to maintain high security by activating no more ports in the firewall than absolutely necessary.
Breaches in the system With today’s NetWorker architecture (as with comparable products), backup and recover operations involve a host of processes communicating between server, client and storage nodes. Each link between two processes requires a port to be activated in the firewall. The number of activated ports thus increases with the total number of clients, backup drives and the degree of parallelism.
Fewer ports, less danger We have responded to the legitimate customer demand for an improvement here and have even come up with a single-port solution for the NetWorker FireWall eXtension. This means that only one port in a firewall needs to be activated for all NetWorker communication. |
