ControlCenter Suite Central management of all components in an Enterprise Storage Network (ESN)The ControlCenter Suite is used for monitoring, configuration, control, tuning and planning storage resources in an Enterprise Storage Network (ESN) from a single console. Based on central management, the suite considerably simplifies administration of a storage infrastructure. The ControlCenter-Suite includes management functions for the following systems:
* Symmetrix Enterprise Storage * CONNECTRIX product series on FC basis * switches and hubs from Fujitsu Siemens Computers and EMC * connection to various server platforms
The ControlCenter console and the Symmetrix Manager are the core components of the ControlCenter-Suite. Additional applications extend the status, performance and configuration messages with additional functions for active management of ESN components. The following applications are available:
Resource View - displays the assignment of hosts and storage systems physically, logically and business-oriented, thus providing an overview of the virtual layers of the IT environment.
SRDF/TimeFinder Manager - local and remote management for business continuity and recovery processes in case of disaster.
Symmetrix Disk Reallocation - dynamic disk assignment via mouse click
Symmetrix Optimizer - monitoring, analyzing and actively moving logical storage volumes for continuous optimum performance.
Symmetrix Database Tuner - monitoring and tuning Oracle databases on Symmetrix systems.
Workload Analyzer - collects performance data from the Symmetrix system, displays it and archives it for creating trend analyses, the most critical factors for capacity planning.
ESN Manager Centralized management, heterogeneous access control, configuration and monitoring of the Fibre Channel Enterprise Storage Network (ESN). The ESN Manager is a comprehensive management tool for ESN environments. It reduces operating costs via optimized ESN management and considerably improves security and economy with regard to technology and personnel. The ESN Manager provides administrators with global data access management at storage system level instead of separately for each server. The ESN Manager provides dynamic organization and trouble-free management of the ESN environment via an intuitively controlled Graphical User Interface (GUI), a Command Line Interface (CLI), volume-oriented access control, centralized zone control and individual access path management.
Features of the ESN Manager:
* centralized management of the Enterprise Storage Network (ESN) * volume-oriented access control for heterogeneous hosts (LUN masking) * centralized heterogeneous zone control (zoning) * security and efficiency via autopath functionality for individual access path management * intuitively controlled graphical user interface

Symmetrix software solutions for storage infrastructures
Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) The Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) mirrors application data on one or more physically separate SYMMETRIX systems, independent of their location. The Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) is the main software from EMC for enterprise storage concepts. It currently represents a standard for interruption-free operation of enterprise-wide applications and business processes. SRDF mirrors (copies) the data from a primary Symmetrix storage system into a second, physically separate Symmetrix storage system, automatically and in real time. This means that during a planned or unplanned interruption of operations at the production location, the latest data, which is needed for continuous operation, is available immediately from the mirror location. Time-delayed, asynchronous data mirroring and multiple mirroring are thus possible over almost any distance.
TimeFinder TimeFinder creates independently addressable mirror copies of active Symmetrix application data in the background for use with parallel tasks. The EMC TimeFinder is a software product with which independently addressable Business Continuance Volumes (BCVs) can be stored in the background from mainframe, UNIX and NT data. These BCVs are mirror images of active production data which can be used for different purposes, such as tests and simulations, independent of the normal operation. Parallel processing of such tasks together with normal operation increases efficiency and productivity since all production processes continue running without being affected.
Features of the EMC TimeFinder:
* maximizing the online time of the systems * regular, fast backups without interrupting normal operation * loading or updating data warehouses as required * application tests with real data without influencing normal operation * no time window for copies, thus sparing batch processing capacity
Networker/TimeFinder integration for Oracle databases and R/3 modules
Fujitsu Siemens Computers provides Networker modules as data backup solutions that can automatically backup Oracle databases and R/3 application data while online, via TimeFinder BCVs.

PowerPath PowerPath offers multiple I/O options, automatic load balancing and failover functions for the data paths when using open server platforms together with SYMMETRIX storage solutions.
PowerPath is a server-resident software solution that improves performance and information availability. The solution includes distributing the I/O processes over multiple data paths, automatic load distribution and, if a channel fails, automatic switchover to another channel. This results in more IT tasks being completed faster, thus making it possible to serve more customers and take better advantage of business opportunities. PowerPath operates in open server environments with SYMMETRIX storage solutions.
Features of EMC PowerPath:
* distributing the I/O workload over different channels * intelligent load distribution ensures optimum use of existing channels * automatic switchover to another channel in case of failure ensures interruption-free information flow
InfoMover Fast data transfer between heterogeneous systems saves time, costs and resources. InfoMover is a high performance software solution that flexibly combines data transfer and distribution, thus ensuring universal availability of information. InfoMover transfers data bidirectionally between any combination of mainframes, UNIX and NT platforms. These transfers run via the Symmetrix system and existing I/O channels and not via the network. In addition, UNIX systems can directly process MVS data with InfoMover, thus sparing additional data transfers and valuable time.
Features of InfoMover:
* acceleration of data transfers in the computer center * faster refreshing of data warehouses * fewer restrictions from batch scheduling * fast implementation via the new, easy-to-use interface
GeoSpan for Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS) GeoSpan offers unbeatable business continuity and fast application restarting after a disaster, on the basis of the Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS) high-availability environment.
GeoSpanTM for MSCS combines the Microsoft Cluster Service solution, which is widely used in Windows environments, with the Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) disaster recovery solution. This provides a high-availability, remotely locatable option for MSCS configurations that allows important business processes to be restarted very quickly even after a disaster occurs.
Features of GeoSpan for MSCS:
* high availability for servers and applications plus disaster recovery for files and data * improved data availability with continued service during hardware and software failures
