Connectivity options include Fibre Channel, 2-Gbit FICON for mainframes, Gigabit Ethernet for SRDF, and iSCSI. Like all Symmetrix models, it satisfies every availability need, allowing users to combine data mirroring with RAID protection both locally and remotely. Critical data can be mirrored offsite without additional load on the host, making it disaster-proof. The fully redundant system provides advanced failure protection: even maintenance can be performed without downtime. Routine self-monitoring functions, meanwhile, detect potential problems in the drives or cache.

When SLAs (service level agreements) require additional performance and availability, look no further than the DMX3000-M2. This new model incorporates 1 GHz PowerPC channel and disk directors, raising Symmetrix performance by up to 30 percent. The technology is also available as a data-in-place upgrade for existing systems.
