Strong first quarter UK server sales confirm Fujitsu Siemens Computers as an increasingly strong UK enterprise player

- only Top Ten UK server vendor to report sales growth for the Q2 2001 to Q1 2002 period according to IDC market research

Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European vendor of secure Business Critical Computing and Mobility solutions, has seen an impressive growth in its UK server business during the first calendar quarter of 2002 - confirming the company as an increasingly strong enterprise IT partner for UK organisations.

Recent market research from IDC for Western Europe reports that Fujitsu Siemens Computers' total UK server sales for the period Q2 2001 to Q1 2002 grew by some 82 per cent over the previous four quarter period. This strong UK performance comes at a time when the overall UK market for Intel and UNIX-based servers fell by some 29.5 per cent in volume, and when none of the other top ten UK server vendors increased market share. The company has also seen a positive market reaction to its PRIMEPOWER offering for Solaris UNIX customers, with an impressive Q1 2002 performance and an increased take-up of its high-end multi-processor PRIMEPOWER systems.

This UK success follows the positive announcement last month that Fujitsu Siemens Computers had ended its 2001/2002 financial year (ended 31 March 2002), with a profit turnaround of Euro 100 million compared to the previous financial year. The company also ended its second complete financial year since the merger with a pre-tax profit of Euro 29 million. Key drivers in achieving this profitable result were the company's consistent focus on the strategic areas of Mobility and Business Critical Computing (BCC), resulting in a larger share of higher value products and professional services.

"With our PRIMERGY Intel-based servers, PRIMEPOWER Solaris-based UNIX systems and Enterprise Storage business we've now got one of the market's strongest enterprise portfolios. This gives us a powerful platform to deliver Business Critical Computing solutions to our growing UK customer base," commented Dave Cullinane, Fujitsu Siemens Computers' Managing Director for the UK and Ireland. "This performance gives us an excellent platform for our new financial year, and I'm encouraged that our UK business has continued strongly during April and May, with major commercial and public sectors customers now regarding Fujitsu Siemens Computers as an increasingly credible alternative to some of their more established enterprise technology providers."

Fujitsu Siemens Computers profit turnaround is particularly impressive when viewed against the backdrop of a European IT hardware market that has suffered significant losses in 2001, resulting in reduced turnover and profit for most manufacturers. Dave Cullinane is pleased that the company's recent performance shows that Fujitsu Siemens Computers is on the right track with its strategic direction, but also recognises that signs of a recovery in the business environment are not yet tangible. "We're performing ahead of target in the UK, but we need to maintain this momentum. That's why we've invested in our sales and channel operations to ensure that we continue to build on this impressive start to the year."
