IDC final data for Q2/2002 confirms Fujitsu Siemens Computers' strength in Notebook and Intel Server market segments
- Fujitsu Siemens Computers achieves 16.1 per cent year on year growth in mobile PC market segment, and 11.2 per cent increase in Intel server sales
Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European vendor of secure Business Critical
Computing and Mobility solutions, has announced that IDC’s final EMEA PC market data
for Q2 2002 released today confirms Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ strong performance in
the Notebook PC and Intel-based Server market sectors. Fujitsu Siemens Computers'
overall mobile notebook sales levels exceeded those of the corresponding quarter in
2001. Standard Intel Architecture Server sales were also well ahead of the forecast,
despite difficult commercial conditions in the largest European markets and
competition from both international and local players.
The IDC figures show that Fujitsu Siemens Computers has retained its number three
position in the overall top vendor ranking for Europe and EMEA PC Shipments and still
holds the number one vendor spot in Germany. Within the mobile PC market segment, IDC
highlighted that Fujitsu Siemens Computers has gained market share in EMEA with 16.1
per cent year on year growth in sales. The report also found that the Standard Intel
Architecture Servers segment reflects a very positive year on year quarter for Fujitsu
Siemens Computers, with an 11.2 per cent increase in sales.
IDC’s final report for Q2 2002 shows that both corporate and consumer spending on PCs
across the EMEA region remained very slow in Q2, with only the notebook sector
demonstrating continued, healthy growth," said Dave Cullinane, Managing Director for
Fujitsu Siemens Computers in UK and Ireland. "It is gratifying to see that Fujitsu
Siemens Computers achieved sales growth matched by few other vendors in the one market
segment that displayed increasing demand.
"Fujitsu Siemens Computers recognised the market shift towards mobile PCs back in Q4
2001, and realigned its strategic direction accordingly to focus on Business Critical
Computing and Mobility solutions. So, while the decline in Q2 PC shipments reported by
IDC was inevitable, Fujitsu Siemens Computers was already prepared for this industry
trend, and is well-equipped to meet businesses' evolving requirements. The benefits of
this strategic vision are reflected in the recent IDC figures," Dave Cullinane continued.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has invested heavily in the Notebook PC and Intel Server areas
of market growth over the last two quarters and has also released several major new
products. Already in Q3, Fujitsu Siemens Computers has launched a new LIFEBOOK
notebook with integral Wireless LAN and Bluetooth access and announced its intention
to extend its PRIMERGY product portfolio with a new second generation Itanium2-based
server system by the end of 2002.
IDC states: Fujitsu Siemens Computers retained its number three position in the overall
ranking and the number one spot in Germany. Difficult market conditions in the largest
European market and competition from both international and local players continued to
affect the vendor’s overall performance but notebook sales remained strong.
