Fujitsu Siemens Computers reports strong half-year progress in UK
- Mobility and Business Critical Computing focus results in impressive notebook PC and server sales growth
Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European vendor of
secure Business Critical Computing and Mobility solutions, has reported
strong performance from its UK operation during the first half of its
financial year. Thanks to significant growth from the company's server and
notebook system sales, the company has reported FY2002 half-year revenues of
some £84 million, up over 29 per cent against the same April-September
FY2001 half-year period. These figures reflect Fujitsu Siemens Computers'
continued progress in the UK, and follow IDC's recent UK analysis (August
2002) that showed Fujitsu Siemens Computers growing ahead of the market -
particularly in the Notebook PC and Intel-based server sectors.
For its FY2002 half-year, Fujitsu Siemens Computers reported major growth in
its server business, with revenues from its PRIMERGY Intel-based systems and
PRIMEPOWER and BS2000/OSD data centre platforms up over 70 per cent compared
to the same period last year. At the same time, sales of the company's
LIFEBOOK notebook PCs grew 79 per cent, backed by a 38 per cent rise from
enterprise storage and a 20 per cent growth in professional services.
"We've made strong progress during the first half of our financial year, and
it's now clear that our focus on Mobility and Business Critical Computing
has given us a strong differentiation both among our SME channel customers
and increasingly with larger enterprise organisations," commented Dave
Cullinane, Managing Director for Fujitsu Siemens Computers in the UK and
Ireland. "During the first half of our financial year we've continued to
develop our UK channel business, while also establishing our PRIMERGY and
PRIMEPOWER ranges as one of the market's strongest enterprise portfolios.
We're obviously delighted with our first half performance, particularly
given overall market conditions across the UK.
"This week at our major OCTOBERFESTival exhibition we're highlighting some
of the new technologies that I believe will help us to maintain this
progress," continued Dave Cullinane. "In the Mobility area we're previewing
our new Stylistic Tablet PC offering, and showing GPRS variants of our
successful Pocket LOOX PDA. We're also raising the bar in the enterprise
space, where our new PRIMEPOWER family with its Extended Architecture is
currently setting new performance standards for SPARC/Solaris customers, and
where we've also signed an important new partnership agreement with Amdahl.
These and other developments clearly show that we're a serious player across
the full IT spectrum, and that our major commercial and public sector
customers now regard Fujitsu Siemens Computers as an increasingly credible
alternative to more traditional enterprise IT providers."
