- Fujitsu Siemens Computers launches new Stylistic ST Series Tablet PC designed for real world operation

Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the clear UK market leader in pen tablet PCs according to IDC research, has announced the availability of its new Stylistic® ST Series Tablet PC. The company has over ten years' experience in designing and manufacturing pen-enabled computers, and the announcement comes in conjunction with the launch of Microsoft® Windows® XP Tablet PC Edition, a new version of Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional, with an extensive and integrated suite of utilities such as handwriting recognition.

Fujitsu Siemens Computer's new Stylistic ST Series Tablet PC features an XGA TFT display equipped with an electromagnetic digitiser, making it possible to write directly on the screen with the accompanying pen. This feature allows for more intuitive pen operation and accommodates natural handwriting input. The new Stylistic ST Series Tablet PC's unique design allows it to be used as either a slimmed-down desktop or a portable PC, according to the needs of the user.

"Tablet PCs are set to revolutionise mobile computing, and will be a key driver in the important shift from previous generation 'travelling portability' solutions - where notebooks served as productivity tools for stationary workers - to an exciting new era of 'working mobility'," explained Mel Taylor, Marketing Director for Fujitsu Siemens Computers in the UK. "We believe that Tablet PCs operating as interactive decision support devices for mobile workers will play a key role in supporting the growing number of users who need anytime, anywhere PC functionality while they stand or walk.

"The new Stylistic ST Series Tablet PC is our 18th generation pen tablet launch, and this gives us a unique perspective, both in terms of the type of technology and manufacturing needed to deliver Tablet PCs for real world users, and into the functionality that users actually require," he continued. "We've already successfully deployed major pen tablet implementations for corporate customers, and we're convinced that the new Tablet PC will be a very successful volume proposition for this sector, effectively creating a whole new market space. We'll concentrate our efforts on a number of key application areas including Sales Force Automation, Field Service, Healthcare, Insurance, Pharmaceuticals and Market Surveys, building on our existing pen tablet success with organisations such as Ordnance Survey and Unilever."

"The Fujitsu Siemens Computers' Stylistic ST Series Tablet PC is an exciting design, which will help increase worker productivity by providing users with a more natural form of computing," said Alexandra Loeb, vice president of the Tablet PC division at Microsoft. "The Fujitsu Siemens Computers Tablet PC makes it easy for customers to blend the simplicity of pen and paper with the functionality of a personal computer."

The new Stylistic Tablet PC's amazing electronic ink and handwriting recognition capabilities make using the system just like writing on a paper notepad with a digital pen, and with up to five hours of battery life, users can carry their Tablet PC with them throughout the day. Within seconds the new Tablet PC can also be transformed into desktop mode by simply slotting the Stylistic in to a Tablet Dock and with a keyboard, mouse and a multitude of other peripherals attached.

The Stylistic ST4110 weighs in at just 1.48kg (3.2 pounds) and comes in an A4 package, measuring 22 x 30 cm with an ultra-slim depth of 22mm, making it one of the thinnest and lightest Tablet PCs to date. With up to 4.5 to 5 hours battery life and a design that makes it simple to use whilst standing and walking, the Stylistic Tablet PC allows users to do anything that they can do on a desktop PC. It is easy to connect devices such as a keyboard, mouse or DVD/CD reader and writer or a GSM or GPRS card, giving customers complete flexibility about how they use the Tablet PC in different situations.

The Stylistic ST4110 has a high-quality 10.4-inch XGA TFT display, which can be easily rotated between landscape and portrait mode to optimise application viewing without needing to reboot the system. Embedded in the display is an active digitiser that enables the user to take handwritten notes with digital ink and to save them on the unit. The ultra-fine resolution then ensures a crisp and clear display to easily view written text and graphics. These sophisticated display technologies are essential to ensure that customers can complete common business tasks such as checking e-mail, accessing electronic files, taking handwritten notes, reading text and wirelessly sharing information virtually anywhere.
