Fujitsu Siemens Computers launches PRIMECLUSTER availability for Linux
- Extends sophisticated clustering and high availability to PRIMERGY Intel-based servers certified for Linux
- Combines with PRIMERGY blade server technology to provide powerful Intel-based clustering solution
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has announced a new Linux
version of its PRIMECLUSTER clustering and high availability software to run
on Linux-certified PRIMERGY Intel-based servers and the company's latest
PRIMERGY BX300 blade server technology. PRIMECLUSTER has already proved
successful on the company's Solaris/SPARC-based PRIMEPOWER servers, and the
new Linux version will address the growing take-up of Linux in data centres.
The new PRIMECLUSTER 4 version will support SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7
and Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1, and is an ideal clustering solution
for those organisations looking to deploy standard Intel hardware
architectures with Linux - especially in key areas such as high availability
applications and scalable web front-ends.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers launched PRIMECLUSTER to help address key Business
Critical Computing issues, including the fast and reliable implementation of
complex IT infrastructures as well as the need to cluster across hardware
platforms. PRIMECLUSTER offers a variety of services, including
sophisticated cluster failover management, support for parallel databases,
and dynamic load balancing. It also includes cluster-wide data management
enabling scalable access to shared data from several nodes - an important
feature for companies that distribute their products via the Internet.
"PRIMECLUSTER works across hardware platforms so that customers can optimise
the use of their Solaris or Linux-based servers allowing them to operate
within a single cluster," explained Mel Taylor, UK Marketing Director for
Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "This ability to work with different platforms
brings obvious benefits in terms of reducing total cost of ownership and
maximising Business Critical Computing availability across the IT
infrastructure."
Clustering advantages with PRIMECLUSTER and PRIMERGY blade servers
With its PRIMERGY BX300 blade servers, Fujitsu Siemens Computers offers
exceptional performance while taking up little space - up to 300 servers and
600 processors can be accommodated in a single rack. Integrated components
guarantee lower infrastructure and maintenance costs. The combination of
PRIMECLUSTER and PRIMERGY BX300 blade servers offers a powerful clustering
solution, with PRIMECLUSTER's dynamic load balancing providing ideal
response times for TCP/IP-based network accesses.
PRIMECLUSTER and PRIMERGY blade servers also ensure outstanding
availability, since at any given time only fully-functioning servers with
fully-functioning network services are supplied with requests. Whenever a
configuration like this threatens to reach its performance limits, capacity
can be smoothly expanded by simply including additional nodes. This ensures
a fast and calculable return on investment. For all application scenarios
whose medium-term load profile cannot be reliably predicted, this offers
excellent application opportunities, since the configuration can be flexibly
and cost-effectively brought into line with rapidly changing business or
workload requirements - all without interrupting ongoing operation.
Ideal solution for Internet, e-business and mobile computing
PRIMECLUSTER combines with PRIMERGY rack and blade server technology to
provide an ideal consolidation platform for IT applications such as
Internet, e-business and mobile computing, where a reliable,
easy-to-administer and scalable front-end infrastructure is a key success
factor. Integrating and administering a web infrastructure can be a very
resource-intensive task that can only be mastered with the aid of
professional solutions. For example, in the e-commerce sector in particular,
rapid response times are an integral part of availability and can play a
crucial role in determining business success.
Pre-tested scalable web server solutions
With its focus on Business Critical Computing, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is
ideally placed to provide customers with innovative and cost-effective IT
infrastructure solutions. The company has combined its PRIMECLUSTER and
Linux-based PRIMERGY expertise to provide fully-integrated and pre-tested
scalable web server farm solutions that help customers to get up and running
more quickly and significantly eliminate risk in the implementation phase.
Cross-platform deployment
PRIMECLUSTER can also be used across platform boundaries. This makes it
possible to optimise the use of Solaris- or Linux-based servers in
multi-tier architectures, since only one cluster has to be operated. Using
different platforms has obvious benefits in terms of reducing the total cost
of ownership and maximising the availability of heterogeneous infrastructures.
