Fujitsu Siemens Computers partners with VMware to strengthen IT infrastructure consolidation offer
- Agreement to resell VMware ESX Server to support consolidation and partitioning on eight-way PRIMERGY T850 Intel-based server
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has announced an agreement with
VMware to resell the company's VMware ESX Server virtual machine software to
support consolidation and partitioning on its powerful eight-way PRIMERGY
T850 Intel-based servers. The agreement is a key part of Fujitsu Siemens
Computers' Business Critical Computing approach, and builds on the company's
central cross-platform strategy for IT infrastructure consolidation. In the
Intel-based server sector, the company's PRIMERGY T850 is the key product
for consolidation, and the agreement will see Fujitsu Siemens Computers
supporting VMware ESX Server as a standard system software product.
The objective is to replace the large inherited base of individual servers
built up over the years by fewer but more powerful servers. The strategy
aims to ensure that different architectures interwork as efficiently as
possible, in order to bring about the maximum benefit for users. In the
Intel-based server sector, the PRIMERGY T850 is the key product for
consolidation.
As part of the agreement, VMware has worked with Fujitsu Siemens Computers
to support the company's ServerView server management software in the
recently released version of VMware's ESX Server software. In addition,
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has become a member of the VMware Preferred
Hardware Partner Program. As a member, VMware will certify the Fujitsu
Siemens Computers PRIMERGY T850 server to ensure compatibility for use with
VMware software. Testing and certification has also been completed for a
specific T850 server consolidation configuration, including SAN storage
subsystems connected via FibreChannel.
"Consolidation is a key part of Fujitsu Siemens Computers' overall Business
Critical Computing approach. Highly scalable, highly reliable
enterprise-class servers such as the PRIMERGY T850 allow applications and
infrastructure services that are currently running on dedicated servers to
be consolidated on fewer servers," commented Mel Taylor, Marketing Director
for Fujitsu Siemens Computers in the UK. "IT infrastructure consolidation
with virtual machines such as VMware ESX Server helps increase the effective
utilisation of overall system resources - leading to lower maintenance costs
and downtime, lower TCO across the server infrastructure as well as a faster
return on investment for organisations implementing new server infrastructures."
With VMware ESX Server, multiple configurations based on different operating
systems can co-exist on a single dedicated hardware infrastructure. This
provides additional, valuable features that significantly help in key
enterprise tasks such as software development and testing, improving the
software lifecycle management of legacy applications, and the smooth
migration of legacy applications.
Pairing the PRIMERGY T850 server with VMware ESX Server gives enterprise
customers a way to run a wide variety of applications in virtual machines
running their own operating systems. This allows different virtual machines
to share resources selectively. Resources can also be assigned to individual
virtual machines on a dedicated, exclusive basis, thereby making maximum use
of all the resources a server has available.
