Focus on UK development rewarded with strong half-year progress and 50 per cent plus growth in UK server revenues
- PRIMEPOWER Solaris-based IT infrastructure platform proves an increasingly attractive offering for UK enterprise customers
At a briefing in London today Fujitsu Siemens Computers'
CEO, Adrian v. Hammerstein, highlighted the key role the company's UK
operation has played in helping Fujitsu Siemens Computers perform ahead of a
shrinking IT market. According to v. Hammerstein: "In an IT market going
backwards, our forward momentum has continued with revenue performance ahead
of the market." For the first six months of its 2002/2003 financial year,
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has reported a double figure increase in turnover
for its key focus regions such as Great Britain, France and the Nordic
countries.
"With overall UK turnover for the half year up by 29 per cent and revenues
from our Business Critical Computing and enterprise server operations up by
over 50 per cent, it's clear that Fujitsu Siemens Computers is now providing
UK organisations with a real choice in enterprise computing," added Dave
Cullinane, Managing Director for Fujitsu Siemens Computers in the UK and
Ireland.
Key to this success has been increased sales of the company's Solaris-based
PRIMEPOWER IT infrastructure platform, with organisations such as UBS
Warburg, Churchill Insurance, Specsavers and AG Barr selecting Fujitsu
Siemens Computers and PRIMEPOWER at the heart of their IT infrastructure.
Coupled with the company's strong PRIMERGY Intel-based server and enterprise
storage solutions offerings, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is ideally placed to
provide UK customers with an optimum IT infrastructure for key enterprise
priorities such as consolidation.
"We've made strong progress during the first half of our financial year, and
it's increasingly clear that our focus on Mobility and Business Critical
Computing is now making us an attractive choice for larger enterprise
organisations," continued Dave Cullinane, Managing Director for Fujitsu
Siemens Computers in the UK and Ireland. "We're finding that with customers
increasingly focused on consolidation and trusting more applications to less
servers, the requirement for more flexible and reliable IT infrastructures
becomes increasingly important.
"At the lower end, our PRIMERGY Intel-based blade servers are an attractive
offering for simpler applications such as web serving. For more complex
applications with changing workloads and a requirement for more finely tuned
resource management, however, customers are increasingly turning towards
SPARC servers such as PRIMEPOWER with its data centre class levels of
reliability, scalability and partitioning," he said. "For 2003 we're looking
to build on our enterprise progress by helping UK organisations to address
these major consolidation opportunities."
Following the recent introduction of Fujitsu Siemens Computers' new
PRIMEPOWER family with its Extended Architecture, which is currently setting
new performance standards for SPARC/Solaris customers, Fujitsu Siemens
Computers is ideally placed to address these and other key Business Critical
Computing concerns. In addition to the company's broad choice of server and
storage platforms, Fujitsu Siemens Computers supports its IT infrastructure
offering with key management functions including Enhanced Capacity on
Demand, Usage-based pricing, comprehensive storage management, resource
management and partitioning.
PRIMEPOWER Extended Architecture for IT infrastructure consolidation
The new PRIMEPOWER series is a range of state-of-the-art servers that
combine mainframe-class availability, the performance capabilities of
vector-processing machines and the open benefits of UNIX servers. Based on
the industry-standard Solaris operating environment and the Fujitsu
SPARC64™ microprocessor, the new PRIMEPOWER family scales from four to 128
processors and is an ideal server engine for IT infrastructure
consolidation. PRIMEPOWER supports multiple partitions for physical
isolation, while powerful ARMTech resource management software delivers
optimum utilisation between partitions. Additional PRIMEPOWER consolidation
strengths include PRIMECLUSTER for the highest availability levels, and
ESCoD Enhanced Server Capacity on Demand to activate additional resources
for PRIMEPOWER servers and enable utility-based pricing.
