Silent PC from Fujitsu Siemens Computers sets new standards for quiet PC operation

- Part of new Global PC range of Professional PCs from Europe's leading PC vendor

Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European vendor of secure Business Critical Computing and Mobility solutions, has launched a new "Silent PC" that sets the standard for quiet PC operation. Part of the company's new Global PC range of Professional PCs, the SCENIC W600 Professional PC operates at just 20 decibels (dBA) in standby mode and 28 dBA in operating mode - significantly less that systems from rival vendors that can generate over 30 dBA in standby mode and up to 40 dBA when operating.

With the ergonomic and environmentally friendly SCENIC Silent PC, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is setting a new standard for modern network environments. Compact, powerful, quiet and space saving, it is the ideal PC for client/server environments - particularly in the growing number of medium-sized and large companies who value environmentally friendly products. The SCENIC Global PC range is particularly impressive in the key areas of security, ergonomics, reliability and value - combining to provide UK customers with a strong differentiator in lifetime cost of ownership.

"We're finding that UK customers are responding well to our new Global PC range - thanks in no small part to key market differentiators such as our three year on-site warranty as standard," commented Ian Leigh, Product Marketing Manager for Desktop PCs at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "Preliminary research from IDC for the last quarter of 2002 shows that Fujitsu Siemens Computers was the fastest-growing top five commercial desktop PC vendor in the UK. Clearly customers are responding well to our strong Value4You desktop PC pricing - with high quality Fujitsu Siemens Computers SCENIC PCs available from just £335 ex VAT - and they also appreciate the fact that our products are easily available from our nationwide network of local resellers. We have also introduced a range of financing packages to lessen the stress of PC procurement still further."

Global PC product range
The new global PC products are Fujitsu Siemens Computers' new range of professional PCs. With the small form factor SCENIC C, the desktop SCENIC N, the micro-tower SCENIC P and the expandable tower SCENIC W, Fujitsu Siemens Computers has introduced a full range of professional PCs. Based on different modular packages for Security and Desktop Management, the new professional PC product line can be optmised towards the specific requirements in SME and Large Enterprise environments.

SCENIC Silent PC - addressing the challenge of background PC noise Apart from your eyes, hearing is the most important channel for receiving information. Consciously or unconsciously, noises from a PC are registered and often perceived as a disturbance. Fujitsu Siemens Computers has combined new technologies and concepts to come up with a solution to address this problem with its SCENIC Silent PC offering. With most standard PCs ranging between 35 and 50 dBA, the SCENIC range compares favourably, coming close to the dBA level for whispering at five feet (20 dBA), and much quieter that the background noise that rainfall makes (50 dBA).

This performance is the result of the company's extensive research into reducing overall PC noise, including the award of patents for advanced low-noise fan control and Xontrol CD-ROM drive speed control. Fujitsu Siemens Computers has also worked to reduce physical vibrations that are often transmitted through the metal hard disk drive chassis directly to the PC case which can act as an amplifier. SCENIC Professional PCs feature a distinctive EasyChange clamping fixture made of synthetic material and using no screws. This means that drives can be changed easily, while the synthetic material prevents the direct transfer of physical vibrations from the hard disk drive to the PC cabinet. The company has also developed its distinctive AirTunnel design that channels air across the processor and routes it past the power supply before being expelled from the PC. This means that only one internal fan is necessary - not two - resulting in a considerable reduction of fan noise.
