Fujitsu Siemens Computers launches industry's first four year PC warranty

- free 'refresh4you' upgrade to four years on-site warranty for SCENIC desktop PCs

Fujitsu Siemens Computers has launched refresh4you, a new four year on-site warranty upgrade programme for its SCENIC desktop PCs. refresh4you is aimed particularly at the growing number of UK SME organisations that bought their current PCs in the run-up to Y2K, and now find that their desktop support service has run out. In 1999 Fujitsu Siemens Computers was the first PC manufacturer to offer a three year on-site warranty as standard on all its desktop business PCs, and the launch of the PC industry's first four year warranty programme continues the company's strong record of service innovation.
 
"We have listened to our SME customers, and developed refresh4you to meet their immediate needs," commented Nick Eades, Director of Marketing for Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "In our research we found that many of our SME customers have PCs that are out of warranty - exposing them to the risk of repair costs - and that their PCs are taking longer to complete standard work tasks. SME businesses are also aware that older PCs running older operating systems are potentially more susceptible to virus attacks.
 
"Many SME users now have PCs that are almost four years old, and as they start to replace them it's only natural that they look for a warranty that can match their expectations of product lifecycles," he added. "With refresh4you we're introducing a programme that addresses these issues, and we're looking to jump-start the SME PC refresh market with this unique offer. With four year financing to match our four year warranties we're really starting to take the headache out of PC procurement."
 
PCs bought in 1999 typically featured Intel Pentium III processors running at 500 MHz, had 64 MB of RAM, 4 GB disk drives, 15" monitors and ran Windows 95. This compares to today's standard business PCs, which typically cost up to 35 per cent less, and feature dramatically improved performance with a typical specification of 2.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processors, 256 or 512 MB of main memory, 40-80 GB hard drives, TFT screens and sound, graphics and network connectivity integrated on the motherboard.
 
The programme is available for SCENIC P300 and N300 PCs purchased by 30th June 2003. To register for the refresh4you warranty upgrade programme, customers must visit www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/refresh4you and fill in their warranty details within 90 days of buying an eligible product. Only SCENIC PCs sold as part of the value4you programme qualify for this offer. These range from the entry-level SCENIC P300 featuring an Intel Celeron 1.8 GHz processor from just £335 ex VAT, to top-of-the-range SCENIC N300 and P300 systems featuring Intel Pentium 4 2.6 GHz processors from just £563 ex VAT.
