45. Does my Pocket LOOX N5xx/C5xx series support SD HC cards?
These Pocket LOOX models only support standard SD cards, not the SD HC format cards.

44. I use E2C to connect my network, the Loox N5xx connects but cannot browse web pages
E2C and the Windows Mobile 5 Wireless Manager cannot be used at the same time. If you use E2C to connect you CANNOT use the Globe to turn wireless on or any other part of the WM5 wireless software.

If you use the Wireless Manager please perform a soft reset (poke the stylus into the reset hole at the bottom of PDA).
You can then reconnect using E2C.
From then on only use E2C to manage your wireless connection.

If you still have problems, back up your data and then perform a hard reset and then connect using E2C.

43. T830 - Manual doesn't explain the difference, when performing a Hard Reset, between Clean Registry/Factory Defaults
  • CLEAN REGISTRY - This resets the device to factory settings, losing applications but keeps your data intact.
  • FACTORY DEFAULTS - This completely wipes everything and resets the device back to it's factory defaults.
  • SKIP

    Try Clean Registry first.

    42. My N100/N110 is in the wrong language!
It is a simple Display setting. Take a look at this guide.

    41. How do I synchronise my LOOX against a PC running Windows Vista?
You cannot install or run Microsoft ActiveSync on Windows Vista. However, the features that are available in ActiveSync on Microsoft Windows XP and on earlier versions of Windows are available in Windows Mobile Device Centre on Windows Vista. You can use these features to set up your desktop partnership and to synchronize a device and a computer.

    See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931937 for more details.

    40. Why can the N100 / N110 not connect via ACTIVESYNC?
If you cannot connect to your PC via ActiveSync.  This is because it is not a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), but a PNA (Pocket Navigation Assistant). It's not meant to connect to ActiveSync.

You connect to the PC via a USB cable and the device shows up as a drive within Windows Explorer. Then drag-and-drop like any other attached drive.

    39. Cannot find WPA option in E2C - but Datasheet says LOOX supports WPA!

    Correct
Unfortunately, the application E2C does not support WPA! However, Windows Mobile on the LOOX does - so you need to use the Windows interface (Start->Settings->Connections) to control Wireless LAN if you want to use WPA.

    38. Can connect wirelessly to network but cannot view webpage's
Enter the Wireless Network power saving properties and Disable the power saving feature.
It's as if the power saving is so good that it reduces the strength of the signal, thus it can stop pages getting to the Loox. Turn it off and you get full signal strength and can browse fine.

    37. When performing the Pocket LOOX N100 1.16 update from our download site it can be tricky to actually get the button presses right.
  • Hold the POWER button
  • Briefly press the stylus into the reset hole (keeping power button pressed)
  • When the screen brightens release the power button
  • You will then be asked to 'press HOLD to update' - this means slide the lock button into the locked position.
  • The update should now perform
  •
    36. How to find Serial Number without taking LOOX apart.
  • Start
  • Settings
  • System tab
  • System Information
  • Identity

    35. N100/N110 - The Navigation and MP3 icons have an X over them!
This is because the device is connected to the PC via the USB cable. Once you disconnect the USB cable from the Loox the X will disappear and normal service will resume.

    34. N100/N110 - Cannot find the Stylus in the box?
The Stylus is supplied already fitted into the Loox.

    33. N100/N110 - There seems to be a problem installing the Navigation software.
The software comes preinstalled as part of the OS and doesn't require installing (though you may think it needs installing due to question 37). The Map also comes preloaded onto the Mini-SDCard (on N100). Maps can be deleted and put onto the card/device when connected to the PC via USB cable.

    32. How do I install Active Sync?
    Full instructions here

    31. Where do I find the drivers for the Pocket LOOX when loading via USB on Win98?
---- from the folder on the supplied CD------ D:\Ms\Actsync\main\comp\def (where d: is the cd drive)

    30. Activesync does not always work.
If the first attempt is unsuccessful, disconnect and connect again. This is a limitation of Pocket PC2002

    29. How do I conduct Active Sync on my Pocket LOOX via Infrared?
    Please run through these diagnostics.

    28. How do I open the attachments in my Pocket LOOX inbox?
    Please run through these diagnostics.

    27. How do I get connected to GPRS via Infrared?
Please run through these diagnostics. Remember, if dialling from the UK, enter the UK country code of 44 when asked.

    26. I have done a hard reset of my LOOX. How do I recover the synchronized files from my PC.
On a hard reset the old Partnership between PC and LOOX is lost. A new one needs to be created. On the PC it is possible
to move the files to the new partnership. Alternatively re-establish the partnership using the old name.

    25. Can I synchronize my LOOX with Outlook Express.
No. The Microsoft " Get Your E-mail Synchronized" step by step guide on the Web, states that "Microsoft Outlook Express and other e-mail clients are not supported".

    24. Can I synchronise my LOOX with Lotus notes.
ActiveSync will not synchronise with Lotus Notes. Previously It only worked with Microsoft Outlook. There is a product called mNotes based on Lotus notes available here http://www.commontime.com/DpEvaluation.asp user guide can be found here

    23. How do I set up my Sony Ericson T68i phone?
    http://www.mobem.com/products/mphone_bt/loox_bt_setup.htm

    22. How can I perform a soft reset on a Loox 600?
On the back of the LOOX, labelled 4 in the picture,
is the soft (warm) reset option. Push the stylus in here.

    21. I have connected the LOOX and my PC using the USB cable, but nothing happens. I cannot get the two to synchronize.
We have recently come across this problem when the LOOX is running on battery power. Try unplugging the ActiveSync cable, ensuring that power is being supplied to the LOOX (Green LED) and then reconnect the cable.

    20. On my PC in the ActiveSync window there is a status "see status on device". What does this mean?
It indicates an error condition. You need to run up ActiveSync on the LOOX. In the lower portion of the screen you should see the error listed. Tap (select) the error and more details should appear.

    19. How do I configure the LOOX for use with my Mobility Management SW (supplied by Icomera).
Once you have installed the Mobility Management Software on your Pocket LOOX, run through the following procedures.

    18. When I run the "Get Connected Wizard" I get the following message, "Your device was not detected. Verify that the connection you are using is available".
This could be because the USB cradle or cable was connected to the PC before the active sync software had been installed. The USB device will not be detected and the add new HW wizard will not come up. There will be a USB device listed under "other devices" in device manager. To resolve this, you need to remove this device from device manager and then click refresh. The USB device will be then be detected and the correct drivers installed.

17.When will the GPRS module be available for the Pocket Loox?
There are only TWO options available:
    a. GPRS Compact Flash card for pure data connectivity (now)
    b. Pocket LOOX and Bluetooth enabled mobile phone for data and voice (now)

    16. What features are supported on the Pocket Loox Internet Explorer?
Refer to the following Table for all supported features, (e.g. Java)

    15. The X in the top right corner doesn't always close my programs. Sometimes I need to go into the Running Programs list to stop a program.
That's how it works! The text blow is (almost) a direct crib from the Microsoft development website for hand held systems.

Many PDA users do not understand that they cannot close any running application. Most of those users were accustomed to closing applications on the desktop. However under Windows CE, an application is closed when a new application is started and needs more memory or resources than are available. However, some software vendors have decided to include an "Exit" or "X" button anyway.

    14. I have used LX-Backup to save data from my old LOOX. I am trying to restore it to a new LOOX but it fails.
Sorry, but the Backup programs tend only to restore data to the original system. If you are going to replace or repair a LOOX, you need to secure your data (including files) by synchronizing with your PC using ActiveSync.

    13. I want to transfer contacts to/from my mobile phone. I start "Infrared Receive". It sees the phone, but then get stuck in "Establishing connection...."
Misleading message. The Infrared connection is in fact connected. You now need to go to the application on the phone or LOOX that is going to send the data to the other.

    12. Using Running voice with Nokia 6310i and Pocket Loox

Starting from a hard-reset with no established connections, you need to:

    1). create a Bluetooth modem (e.g.,[0080375E4185DUN]);

    2). set ppc2k2 connection manager to use 'Internet settings' connection to connect to the Internet;

3). set up the RVGSM Flexport Connection Sorting Out Connection Manager

To switch between BT/GPRS and WiFi, toggle connections settings between 'Internet Settings' and 'Work Settings'. If you don't use a WiFi card, then just leave the first box set to Internet Settings.
Center box is 'Work Settings' and last box should always read 'Work'. If you don't see [0080375E4185DUN], then you have not yet connected to the internet using pocket plugfree . If you've already connected to the internet using Pocket PlugFree, then you've already created the Bluetooth modem needed by RVGSM.
Connecting to the internet using PPF for the first time, sets the first box in Connection Manager to [0080375E4185DUN]. On this setting, RVGSM won't work correctly, so switch it back to 'Internet Settings'.
The Flexport GSM Wizard After you open Flexport GSM, you have four tabs. We're only concerned with the 2nd and 3rd (Device, Connections). Set device scroll box to [0080375E4185DUN]. Select the Connections tab. Should only show one connection, '* [0080375E4185DUN]'. If others exist, delete them.
Tap [0080375E4185DUN] to bring up the 'connection name & type' setup wizard.
    Select GRPS, [next],
    type your APN [next],
[next], type your DNS, [advanced], dial number (e.g., *99#), leave extra dial blank, disable IP header and Software compression.
    Enable 'Password Required', [OK], [Finished].
Close Flexport GSM. I suggest a soft-reset at this point.
When you start-up RVGSM, make sure the loox BT hardware switch is set to 'on'.
Do not start pocket plugfree, RVGSM will do that automatically. RVGSM start-up time is approximately 30-seconds (loads program, initiates BT radio, discovers handset). If you need to temporarily shut down Bluetooth, use the hardware switch and leave RVGSM minimized.
The next time you want to re-establish the Bluetooth connection, flick the switch and RVGSM will again restart the Bluetooth radio (pocket plugfree)...
Please note this is taken from the http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/forum/index_loox.html and we have not tested it and therefore cannot guarantee accuracy, but we thank Aquanaut for the input

    11. Pocket Loox does not power on with Compact flash memory inserted
We presently only have a work around for this i.e. remove the CF before powering on.

    10. Backscreen does not illuminate in the dark
We recommend setting the power options to always on. Try holding the button down for 20 seconds, then pressing again it should come on.

    9. USB Drivers from the download site do not work.

There is an issue with the Pocket LOOX USB driver (for Active Sync). We have recently taken a call from the customer who was having a problem getting the driver installed successfully (the inf file was invalid).
When running the latest version of Active Sync 3.6 the driver from our website for the USB will not download without throwing up INF file errors.
There is a conflict between our driver and the version of Active Sync installations.

This can be cured by installing the older version of Active Sync 3.5 and then upgrading to 3.6 once the usb has been installed

    8. Recording quality is low
You have the option of changing the quality of voice recording, but it can take a lot more memory.
Open 'Notes' and tap on 'Tools' then 'Options'. At the bottom of the options page you will see 'Global Input Options' - tap this. Then choose 'Options' and you should see that you can change the voice recording format. By default it is only 2KB/s. Change to something higher and try voice recording again.

    7. Where can I buy the Pocket PC 2003 upgrade for the LOOX 600?
The upgrade image for Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket LOOX 600 was phased out on the 15th march 2004. Click here for the INFORM

    6. Why does the LOOX not play the Background music for Websites I visit.

The problem here is that Pocket Internet Explorer only supports .WAV files for the <BGSOUND>. See the Pocket PC API reference.
Sites using sound formats other than WAV, or using Shockwave, will not play on the LOOX.

    5. My Pocket LOOX 4xx is not turning on

One reason for this may be that the battery compartment cover is not in place correctly. Underneath the cover is a small pin that sticks up when the cover is removed. The function of this is to ensure the LOOX is off when the battery is being replaced. If the cover is not replaced correctly or there is some debris underneath the cover which prevents it from fitting tightly , the LOOX will NOT power on. Always remove and then refit the cover before calling the FSC warranty desk.

    4. I have done a hard reset on my pocket Loox 610 and cannot get the backup to accept that this is a pocket Loox 610
Try resetting the regional settings to the same as your original setup.

    3. Can I connect my LOOX to an Apple Mac?
The LOOX runs a Microsoft operating system and ActiveSync is designed to connect a Pocket PC to a Windows PC. The LOOX does not come with any software for connecting to a Macintosh. However, there are a number of 3rd party products available, such as Pocket Mac. Note that, as always, we cannot support such products.

    2. How can I find the WLAN MAC address?

    On the LOOX 400 & 700 Series.

    1. Turn on the Wireless LAN
    2. Start -> Settings -> System tab -> System Information
    3. Navigate down to Network -> WLAN Adapter.

    1. Active Sync over WLAN

The problem with running ActiveSync over any network is that ActiveSync only works on networks connected to "WORK" rather than "The Internet".
To get this to work on LOOX 400 & 700 series.

    1. Connected to the Wireless network
    2. Go to Start->Settings, -> Connections Tab, -> tap Network Cards.
    3. Tap the connected Wireless Network
    4. change the 'CONNECTS TO' from "The Internet" to "Work".
ActiveSync will now attempt to find your PC (as named in ActiveSync options). As long as you Access Point allows it to see the PC it should work.

If you are also wanting to use the Pocket LOOX to connect to the Internet, then the alternative solution is to leave the Wireless LAN as connecting to the Internet and configure a VPN to you PC (as Pocket PC considers VPNs to be Work connections).
