Ready for WEEE?

Fujitsu Siemens Computers continues to lead the way when it comes to "Taking Responsibility"....

As a responsible IT professional, you will be fully aware of the new WEEE and RoHS directives that are being introduced into the UK, forcing companies to take more care and responsibility with the technology they procure, and the way old systems are disposed of.

Indeed this has probably compounded your IT issues and given you an extra burden of work and responsibility when purchasing new equipment.

Why not shoulder this burden and entrust this important compliance with an IT vendor who has already taken this legislation on board and is taking responsibility...

The purpose of the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive is the prevention of waste electrical and electronic equipment and to reduce the total volume of used electronic equipment for disposal. WEEE is about increasing the rate of recovery, reuse and recycling of electric and electronic equipment. By the end of 2006 the recovery rate shall be at least 75% and the reuse and material recycling rate shall reach at least 65%.

Shoulder the Burden...

Fujitsu Siemens Computers takes seriously its responsibility towards environmental protection, to minimise environmental pollution, even beyond legal requirements. We comply with WEEE and RoHS directives and minimize environmental impact at every stage of the product lifecycle in accordance with the ISO 14001 Management Standard.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers was an early adopter and has been taking back and recycling materials since 1988, through a dedicated plant in Germany, and now across Europe through a network of specialist partners chosen for their similar commitment and capabilities. Fujitsu Siemens Computers in the UK will take back and correctly process its own equipment, and ensure no illegal export of electronic waste to developing countries. We are also able to extend this service to third party computer equipment taken back against a new implementation of Fujitsu Siemens equipment.

Potential return....

Fujitsu Siemens Computers will provide a competitive market rate for the collection and disposal of redundant electronic and electrical equipment, and can provide certificated destruction of data if required. Some modules and components may be reusable, and in certain circumstances there may be some residual value in the resale of systems or components. Advance information on the content of the inventory can enable Fujitsu Siemens Computers to ascertain if there would be potential resales values, to offset the disposal costs of waste materials.

Process and terms

1. FSC to be advised of the FSC product that is required to be collected and disposed of. Wherever possible the equipment should be consolidated into one collection, unless volumes require a second vehicle.

2. For any inventory assessment to establish if there is any value in the equipment, FSC require product details in advance to include quantity of CPUs per system, speed of CPUs, RAM and HDD sizes, CD and floppy drives for client systems, drive details for storage arrays, and monitor type and screen size.

3. Product needs to be packed and palletised and ready for collection from a loading bay. Packing and palletising, and further decommissioning services can be provided at extra cost.

4. FSC to be advised prior to the collection on any data destruction instructions, to which standard, and whether certification is required.
