Linux

Linux is an open-source UNIX-like Operating System kernel originally developed by Linus Torvalds in 1991. Today, it is maintained by a loosely knit team of programmers working from all over the world. Linux works on almost every kind of computer in existence, and provides a robust platform for a wide variety of applications. Unlike most Operating Systems, the Linux kernel is free in almost all respects. It can be downloaded from the Internet at no charge, copies can be passed on to friends, and even the internals can be modifed. There are several combinations of Linux with sets of utilities and applications which form a complete operating system. Each of these combinations is called a 'distribution'.

We endorse the use of Linux on teamservers, and have carried out tests to show that the Red Hat 6.0 and the S.u.S.E. 6.1 distributions install and operate correctly. These pages show which servers have been validated, and give advice and guidance on how to achieve a trouble-free installation. In the unlikely event that you experience difficulties installing one of these Distributions on an approved teamserver, and you can't find the answer in these pages, then you should raise the matter with your Software Provider in the usual way. However, we do not provide post-installation support for any Linux distribution.
