FUJITSU SIEMENS COMPUTERS ISSUES CHALLENGE TO FTSE 350 TO REDUCE THEIR DATA CENTRE COSTS BY 40%
Fujitsu Siemens Computers promises to donate 10,000 to The Climate Group each time it fails to prove 40% cost saving

Bracknell, UK - June 7 2007 Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European IT vendor, has today issued its Dynamic Data Centre (DDC) Challenge to UK FTSE 350 companies. Under the terms of the challenge, Fujitsu Siemens Computers will conduct a free value study that will show how an organisation can significantly reduce the cost of its data centre operations.

The DDC Challenge invites organisations to let Fujitsu Siemens Computers demonstrate where it can reduce the power consumption costs, operating costs and physical footprint of an organisations data centre by at least 40%. Fujitsu Siemens Computers is so confident it can achieve these savings that it has promised to donate 10,000 to the environmental charity, The Climate Group, on behalf of any company where it fails to demonstrate this level of saving.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers has placed an advertisement in The Economist this week to attract the attention of chief business decision-makers from FTSE 350 companies and create awareness about the benefits that can be realised from assessing the elements of their data centre. Fujitsu Siemens Computers will provide corporates with recommendations for data centre migration that will include proposals for improvements in their application environments and advice on other elements where cost savings can be realised.

Steve Kendall-Smith, managing director of Fujitsu Siemens Computers UK, comments: We have taken this important step of issuing a challenge to UK corporates because we need the countrys decision-makers to sit up and take note that they currently have power-hungry data centres based on sprawling server farms that are costing them millions of pounds to manage. The average UK data centre has been said to have the equivalent carbon footprint to the city of Leicester(1), however we believe many businesses simply dont know how to go about reducing this huge consumption of power. We hope our DDC Challenge will change this.

Dr Steve Howard, CEO of The Climate Group adds: We applaud this step taken by Fujitsu Siemens Computers and really hope that its DDC Challenge will catch the imagination of UK corporates. It is throwing down the gauntlet to some of the nations largest companies and promising to achieve a reduction in data centre costs that will make a real difference to their bottom line whilst also helping to cut power consumption and reduce their carbon footprint. We believe this is a compelling win-win proposition.

Kendall-Smith continues: We are delighted to be working with The Climate Group on this important initiative. Since launching in 2004 they have proved themselves to be a dynamic and responsive organisation focused on delivering real, measurable results.

The DDC Challenge is open to any FTSE 350 company who agrees to a free value study and initial assessment by Fujitsu Siemens Computers.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers Dynamic Data Solutions are designed to deliver new levels of efficiency, adaptability and automation. All server, networking and storage resources are pooled. This virtualisation of resources breaks the rigid server-to-application links that resulted in bottlenecks and under-utilisation of computing capacity in the past. Based on SLAs that define uptime and response times, server, storage and networking resources are automatically provisioned to the companys business applications. These resources are dynamically allocated to grow and shrink in accordance with the business and workload demands.
