What kind of user is the SCALEO Home Server for? |
- For people who want to store a large amount of data (pictures, documents, videos, songs, etc.) in one place and share it with up to 10 people. The SCALEO Home Server is a headless system, i.e. it can be managed from every client in the house. “Manage” means the server administrator can decide which information and data is to be seen by the other users on the home network.
- For people who want to secure their data using the redundant storage functionality even if their main drive fails. A big benefit is that the clients on the network do not need extra storage for a backup as the SCALEO Home Server automatically backs up files.
- For people who want to have a server that is easy to use.

How does the data protection work? |
| In systems equipped with at least two hard disk drives (HDD), the user can use the folder duplication feature offered by the Microsoft® Windows® Home Server (WHS) operating system. Each of the shared or user private folders can be individually activated for duplication. The duplication mode means that WHS stores a copy of this folder on a different HDD so that, in the event of a HDD failure, the data is still available on the other HDD. In contrast to hardware-based HDD redundancy, e.g. in a RAID system which stores all data redundant, the user can individually decide which data is to be protected or not. For example, he may decide not to store TV recordings in duplication mode as he does not regard them as that valuable. Storing videos twice, would use up a great deal HDD space as these kind of files tend to be quite large. |

What is SCALEO Power Management? |
| Based on the Windows® Home Server software, Fujitsu Siemens Computers has also developed SCALEO Power Management. This additional tool enables you to control energy consumption to save money. Using a calendar like function, you can tell the SCALEO Home Server to come to life at regular intervals when it is typically needed or at specific times. |

What makes the SCALEO Home Server special? |
The specially developed SCALEO Power Management, the likes of which you won’t find on any other home server on the market.
It is extremely silent yet the internal air flow is still very efficient and keeps the HDDs very cool – a key for long life and reliability.
It’s a compact design which can be positioned horizontally or vertically near a power and LAN socket. The easy-to-replace drive mechanism which allows you to add and remover HDDs without needing any tools makes it one of the most user-friendly systems on the market. |

How many clients can access a SCALEO Home Server? |

Do I need in-depth IT knowledge to use the SCALEO Home Server? |
| No. This system was designed to be used by people who are not computer experts. Even with just a little computer knowledge, the SCALEO Home Server functions can be fully used. |

What options do I have to expand the SCALEO Home Server? |
| There is room inside for 4 3.5” drives; there are 4 USB 2.0 and 2 eSATA ports to connect external drives. The maximum HDD capacity is 1 TB, but tomorrow’s larger than 1 TB HDDs will also fit. |
What does easy exchangeability mean? |
| The SCALEO Home Server uses knurled screws to secure the housing and the HDDs inside. No tools are required. A HDD can thus be added or replaced within a minute. |

Why does the SCALEO Home Server 1500 has just one drive? Does data backup still work? |
Saving data does work even with just one HDD. However storing data redundantly on two different HDDs is not possible. Some customers may not initially value the redundancy feature or they may already have another HDD at home which they want to install in the SCALEO Home Server. Or they want to choose what size of HDD to use for additional drives.
Basically, the SCALEO Home Server is designed to grow over time as the user’s valuable data increases. |

What makes „TwonkyMedia UPnP Server“ better than normal UPnP? |
There are a couple of reasons which make the TwonkyMedia server better than a UPnP server:
There is a vast range of different UPnP media players on the market. Unfortunately, many of them are not fully compliant with UPnP and thus have interoperability problems with a standard build-in WMC server. The TwonkyMedia Server is able to detect most of these special players and adapt accordingly. Please refer to http://www.twonkyvision.com/Products/TwonkyMedia/devices.html for an overview of media players supported.
WMC offers a media navigation tree organized according to artist, album, title - but not according to the folder where the media file is actually stored. The WMC method only works if the meta data (tag fields) of the media files are maintained correctly but, as this is not the case for most media files typically found on a PC, offering a sort function according to its storage location is a practical solution.
TwonkyMedia Server also supports streaming for many popular Internet radio stations.
And finally, it supports trick modes (FFWD, FRWD, Jump) when playing back MPEG2 video files on Fujitsu Siemens Computers' ACTIVY Media Player 150. Sounds like a small feature, but makes all the difference between useable and not-useable. |

How can I integrate the SCALEO Home Server into my Digital Home? |
| Due to its built-in UPnP Media Server, all media files centrally stored on the SCALEO Home Server can be streamed to various media players located throughout your Digital Home, be they simple or advanced audio players, picture frames with UPnP and WLAN connection or an all-media player such as our ACTIVY Media Player 150. |
