Fujitsu Siemens Computers - We make sure
ABOUT US

Introducing Thomas Zott, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager.

1. Can you tell me about your role in the company?

Since the 1st of October, I am the Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. I see one of my mayor tasks as to align our company mission and our behaviour with the interests of a global society and the environment in order to support our contribution towards sustainability.

2. What relevance has “CSR” today in companies and particular for Fujitsu Siemens Computers?

CSR has become more and more important for globally operating companies. We believe that companies and in particular Fujitsu Siemens Computers, have to show responsibility, since we are part of the global society. With “we make sure” we have established a company claim, which emphasizes our company direction. “We make sure” is the promise we give to our customers but also towards the society and the environment. We are aware of our responsibility and take it very seriously.

3. Can you point to an example of how you do this in practice?

This starts already with the development of our products. It is our intention to develop products which have no or very limited negative influence on the environment. In the development of our products and also in the manufacturing process we avoid many harmful and hazardous materials in order to avoid risk for the customer, the environment but of course also for our employees. Our goal is to ensure this throughout the product life cycle and of course, as products reach their end of life. Here we offer appropriate recycling and remarketing concepts.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers is getting involved in various social projects; we are an active member in a number of important organizations, which act in the interests of human rights, environment and anti-corruption.

4. What inspires you most about your job?

It is my personal concern that Fujitsu Siemens Computers will be one of the roll models in respect to social responsibility in our industry and as such visible in our markets. This is to what I would like to contribute.
On the other hand, it is very important for me to separate CSR from “marketing/advertising”. Sustainability needs to be lived by a company and the company has to position itself accordingly out of our Sense of Responsibility and not as a marketing activity – and this is what I aim to drive.

5. What are your top priorites in your job?

In a very first step I would like to bring together the individual know how of the experts we have across the company, in order to establish a CSR communication network. Sustainability needs to be incorporated in our daily processes all over the company. Only if Sustainability is lived in the complete organization will it be authentic. Another important aspect in my role is to ensure transparency. We as a company will provide and also live this transparency.

Finally, CSR is a continuous process, this means that we constantly have to challenge ourselves and continue working on improving our contribution.
