| | Energy Savings Story - Ethos |
| |
| |
Fujitsu Siemens Computers is deeply committed to environmental care and protection – an area in which the company maintains three guiding principles. These principles are: |
| |
- We have a responsibility to society to protect the environment
- We act continuously to minimize environmental damage and take steps beyond what is required by law
- Every employee is trained in our environmental ethos and obliged to act in a responsible way
|
Fujitsu Siemens Computers is actively setting new standards in environmental sustainability through the use of creativity, technology and skills. The company was the first to introduce a Blue Angel-certified Green PC to market (1993) and today its growing portfolio of green products range from thin clients to desktop PCs to workstations, and its environmental ethos is reflected in everything it does, from product design and manufacturing processes to take-back and end-of-life product disposal.
The company also uniquely practices what it preaches. Throughout the world, Fujitsu Siemens Computers offices, production sites, travel policies and transportation and logistics arrangements are designed and developed with the environment in mind. Conserving energy is central to this ethos: from carefully designed offices with plenty of natural light to manufacturing sites that incorporate energy saving measures at every step of production to the use of sea instead of air freight wherever possible. Every employee is educated in environmental care and protection, and takes personal responsibility to honor their commitments.

Support for global mandatory reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions |
Fujitsu Siemens Computers clearly supports global mandatory cuts of Greenhouse Gas emissions of at least 50% by 2050 (from 1990 levels) and cuts by industrialized countries of at least 30% as a group by 2020.
Energy efficiency improvement is regarded as contributing substantially to the achievement of greenhouse gas emission targets in the European Community. Electricity demand is the fastest growing energy end-use category and is projected to grow within the next 20 to 30 years, in the absence of any policy action to counteract this trend. A significant reduction in energy consumption as suggested by the Commission in its European Climate Change Programme (ECCP) is possible.
From a legal perspective we expect to face the first impacts of the EuP (EuP: Directive 2005/32/EC, framework for the setting of ecodesign requirements for energy-using products) in 2009. The EU directive EuP is going to anchor environmentally conscious product design in legislation.
In order to strengthen our position as a leader in implementing European environmental protection regulations, Fujitsu Siemens Computers provides more than the standard information about their products. With the publication of energy consumption values according to measurement methods of Energy Star 4.0 and the publication of information on Energy, Environment and End-of-life treatment, we actively support the proposal from the preparatory studies for the EU Commission regarding energy-using products (Personal Computers (desktops and laptops) and Computer Monitors Final Report, www.ecocomputer.org ).
Fujitsu Siemens Computers is also making a significant effort to reduce the energy consumption in data centres by providing the highest possible energy efficiency with PRIMERGY servers. To underline these efforts Fujitsu Siemens Computers has joined the “Green Grid” and “Climate Savers Computing” initiatives and publishes SPECpower benchmark results for PRIMERGY servers and clients. |
