Looking into the future |
The Technology Office is responsible for investigating long-term technology trends, usually five to ten years into the future. It identifies emerging and disruptive technologies, as well as changes in the economies of new technologies.
The Technology Office analyses the potential of these technologies and assesses if and when they will make it into our portfolio. Using this information, and also those ideas that come from within the organization, it develops the direction of the company for the coming 12-18 months.
Once the Technology Office has developed a road map for the technical direction of the company, it is the responsibility of each business unit to turn the ideas into reality. Each area has its own innovation and design team who develop and bring to market the products and services for that area.
It is also the responsibility of the Technology Office to provide advice on ideas that come through the Innovation Process. If it feels that it can provide value then it will, holding workshops and seminars to further develop the idea. If the idea has potential but the timing is wrong, it will file it for investigation at a later date.
