Flexibility: A double win!

Flexibility isn’t just there to help employees, it also benefits the managers. Barbara Schädler, Chief Marketing Officer at Fujitsu Siemens Computers has put this flexibility to good use, for her own benefit and for that of her team.
“Marketing is often a function populated by a large percentage of women. As is also the case, as some of these women choose to have families, the possibilities to continue into senior management positions can become limited. I have a number of women in my team who wanted to continue their work after having children but needed a new approach so that they could successfully combine job and family. My task was to come up with individually tailored solutions which ensured two things:

  • That my team kept the skills and experience in which we had invested in over the years

  • And that in each case the terms & conditions were favourable for both employee and employer.”

I have brought valuable expertise and skills back into the team in an effective and cost-efficient way – and of course, the same approach can be applied to fathers. It’s a double win!” Barbara Schädler.

Helga Sporer-Hahn

Helga Sporer-Hahn chose not only to have children (two in fact) but also to change her country of residence. A life in rural Italy, refurbishing a holiday home, was a family dream. But how to realize this dream, raise two small children and continue a senior position in Marketing?

Helga’s new job enables her to work 25 hours a week, working part of the time from her home in Italy, where child-care provision is much broader than in Germany. Helga is responsible for corporate relations topics such as company materials, corporate PR, company topics and corporate events.

“I won’t say that it is always easy to organize, but every day I am amazed at how I have been enabled to do all things I now do. I love my company for this outstanding flexibility. I enjoy my job and believe I put more into it now than ever before.” Helga Sporer-Hahn

Judith Raddatz

Since her return to work Judith has had two very different jobs - both of them shared. One a shared management position and one to share the leadership on key corporate topics. As her working hours have gradually increased she is now in her third role leading a small team covering Corporate Relations - external and internal.

"This has been a fascinating journey and a challenging one. I have had so many opportunities to use my skills and contribute to the company but in a way which fits to my time available (well almost) and to my family." Judith Raddatz
