In December 2006 we announced our support for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the search to identify and evaluate alternative, environmentally conscious substitutes for brominated flame retardants. We joined the EPA's Design for the Environment Program (DfE), a multi-stakeholder partnership of the printed circuit board industry, chemical manufacturers and environmental groups all working to reduce the risk to people and the environment by preventing pollution.
One of the project’s aims is to establish a database containing data on the suitability of alternative materials for printed circuit boards (PCBs). As a member of the project team, representatives from Fujitsu Siemens Computers take part in regular meetings and contribute experience in the development of lead-free and halogen-free PCBs.
Already a leading developer and manufacturer of environmentally conscious IT products, we have been working for decades to eliminate hazardous substances from our products. For Fujitsu Siemens Computers membership of the EPA partnership provides a unique platform through which we can share the knowledge and insight built up over this time. It also provides a platform that enables us to work alongside our stakeholders in the shared goal of achieving real environmental solutions. We firmly believe that solutions for the industry can only be effectively reached when we work in partnership with our stakeholders.
